The second Thursday of October every year is 'World Sight Day', designated by the World Health Organization(WHO)

and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness(IAPB), to raise awareness of visual impairment.

Heart to Heart International Philippines held the World Sight Day ceremony at Tangos Hight school in Navotas,

Phiilipines on October 12th with the theme of "Make Vision Count".

 

 This event was attended by health workers including the Non-Communical Disease(NCD)

 coordinators who are in charge of the eye health promotion activities of the

Heart to Heart International Philippines and Navotas, and the teachers and students of Tagos High school.

 

 This event, which was started with welcome by Tagos High school's health care teacher was performed

in the order of special performances related to 'eye' of students and lectures and

eye disease screening for eye health improvement and awareness of NCS coordinator (Dr. Charm).

About 400 students participated in the event had a time to check their eyesight through primary vision test,

eye checkup, and consultation with a doctor. In addition,

we found students who needed professional checkup and

instructed them to be able to receive surgery , treatment and spectacles support.

 

 Among them, Sand Pedro Althea, a 13 year-old girl,

who got to know that she had a problem with her eye after taking an eye checkup, expressed her thanks,

"Actually when I was studying, I was frustrated because I couldn't see the chalkboard.

I promise I'll go to the hospital and get spectacles. Thank you for giving me an opportunity!"

 

Looking forward to bright future for students who look at the wide world with bright eyes.

Project for improving eye health in Philippines Navotas

Heart-Heart International contributes to the improvement of the eye health in the city of Navotas district through providing eye care services, educating health workers and high school teachers and finding local patients who have eye disease with the support of the Community Chest of Korea and the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare(KOFIH).
