date:2021-10-21 count:2,018

On August 16 to 20, Heart to Heart Foundation Cambodia carried out a training program for the five doctors who will work at the ‘NCD Center’ located in a Referral Hospital in Thmor Kol Operational District, Battambang Province.

The NCD Center was designed under the understanding of the circumstance of lack of health infrastructure and system for a community in Cambodia as a primary health facility. The doctors will provide NCD care service to community residents for early detection and treatment on the NCD such as hypertension and diabetes much easily through the NCD Center.

The training has been carried to improve theoretical and practical skills for diagnosis and treatment based on the WHO Package of Essential Non-communicable diseases in primary health care (PEN) for 5 Doctors and included various subjects, such as ‘Understanding of WHO-PEN and NCD’ ‘Protocol of diagnosis and treatment of hypertension and diabetes on primary health care level’ and ‘Prevention and healthy lifestyle of NCD’ to improve the understanding on NCD.

Even the training was under the restriction of movement across the regions due to COVID-19 regulations and had a limitation on inviting the lectures from Phnom-Penh, but it was conducted in an alternative way conflating online and off-line in each session and successfully completed without serious challenges due to active cooperation of MoH and Battambang PHD.

Participant, Poeub Phanay, expressed his feelings after training. "Cambodians have an increasing number of NCD patientsdue to bad eatinghabits and behaviors such as smoking and drinking. However, adequate intervention and treatment were not provided at the primary health level. Through this training, I was able to clearly understand the appropriate diagnosis and treatment of the primary health level, and I expect that many people in the community will be able to receive suitable treatment and medicine support through the NCD Center in the future. He also replied, "I hope that training programs for medical personnel will be continued to be carried out."

Heart-Heart Foundation Cambodia endeavors to support the community for prevention and control of the NCD and healthy life. This training is just a first step to reach the community and We are looking for your big supports as the other following steps.
