Partnering with Cambodia’s Provincial Education Department
— Taking the First Step to Improve Eye Health for Over 30,000 Children
Partnership Agreement Signed with Cambodia’s Provincial Department of Education
On August 8th, Heart to Heart Foundation signed a partnership agreement on School-based Eye Health screening
with the Battambang Provincial Department of Education, Youth, and Sports(POE).
The signing ceremony was attended by Hu-jeong MOON, Head of Global Programs Department at Heart to Heart Foundation,
and Yi Songki, Director of the Battambang Provincial Department of Education.
This agreement is part of the “Integrating Eye Health into NCD Care and School Health in Battambang, Cambodia” project,
sponsored by L’Occitane Korea, affiliated with L’Occitane Foundation.
The initiative aims to establish a teacher-led vision screening system centered on public schools in Battambang
and access to enhanced eye health services for approximately 30,000 children through collaboration with local ophthalmologists.
Engaging in discussions with stakeholders
Building on this agreement, the project will be implemented in close cooperation
with local health and education authorities through the following division of roles.
What’s Next?
Through this partnership, we will carry out activities to enhance children’s eye health as followings:
· Training public school teachers on the Basic eye health and How to measure vision
· 1st Eye Screening for children by trained teachers
· 2nd Eye Screening by ophthalmologists and provision of customized eyeglasses
· Providing ophthalmic surgery for children in need
The school-based eye health activity will kick off in November, following the school vacation.
Additionally, the project seeks to strengthen partnerships and build stronger ties through community-based eye health awareness campaigns
and active engagement with government agencies and NGOs.
