Eye care for Everyone, Everywhere

World Sight Day (WSD) is an annual day of awareness to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment. World Sight Day 2018 is on 11 October 2018. The theme of World Sight Day 2018 is ‘Eye Care Everywhere’ in which everyone, everywhere has access to good eye health so as to eliminate avoidable blindness.
Heart to Heart Foundation which contributes to promoting eye health in Bangladesh took part in workshop and various activities in communities in celebration of World Sight Day 2018.

At the workshop, more than 1,000 of Bangladesh government officers and nongovernment workers who are promoting eye-health gathered to share vision issue such as eye diseases and to discuss preventable blindness in Bangladesh. Dr. Golam Mostafa, Director of National Institute of Ophthalmology & Hospital, the speaker of the workshop, said that around 1.5 million children in Bangladesh have been suffering from low vision and about 250,000 people in Bangladesh are at risk of losing eyesight because of diabetic retinopathy and asked them to keep trying eye health awareness promoting.

Heart to Heart Foundation and other non-governmental organization(Sightsavers, Orbis International, the Fred Hollows Foundation, Helen Keller International, CBM, BRAC, and Andheri Hilfe) in INGO Forum which try to promote public eye health and participants in this activity had a time to inform the importance of eye health to Bangladesh people for reducing avoidable blindness through a street march.

Last November 22, To celebrate WSD, Heart to Heart Foundation has visited Gazipur community where it has been difficulty to access eye care services and contributed to helping the people protect their eye health through implementing various activities. Eye screening, eye health education and distribution of eye health materials, free drug we provided became a meaningful time for community residents to maintain their healthy eyes. And the photo zone was installed to make it more familiar with the WSD and eye health awareness, So many residents and students have participated.
The Heart-Heart Foundation‘s efforts will continue on eye health promotion for communities in Bangladesh.
