“2023 World Diabetes Day ? Walking Campaign in Battambang”
- Heart to Heart Foundation Walking Campaign for Diabetes Risk Awareness, Prevention, and Promotion of Healthy Lifestyle -
Since 1991, November 14th has been designated as ‘World Diabetes Day‘ by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), a day to raise awareness about the need for prevention and management of diabetes. On World Diabetes Day, the Heart to Heart Foundation Cambodia Office conducted a ‘Walk campaign‘ to inform people about the risk of diabetes and to encourage diabetes prevention and healthy lifestyle.
Many people attended this campaign, including Bavel Deputy Director of District Administration and police of Bavel district, Bavel District Governor, Thmar Koul Operational District (OD) staff, Bavel RH Director and staff, Bavel DoEYS Director and staff, Youth of the community in Bavel District and Village Health Support Group (VHSG), along with the Heart to Heart Foundation Cambodia office staff.

Dr. Saint Chinhan, the Thmar Koul OD director, mentioned the importance of exercise for diabetes prevention and emphasized active participation of local residents so that they can develop healthy lifestyles such as walking to prevent diabetes and hypertension in the community together
This walking campaign was especially held in the Bavel region for the first time. Ms. Sem Pov, the Deputy Governor of Bavel, expressed joy in participating in the campaign and highlighted it as a special opportunity to spread awareness about diabetes in the community. She was confident that it would contribute to increasing awareness of health in the region.

More than 200 participants joined the campaign, carrying banners with information about diabetes prevention from Bavel RH to Bavel market. We hoped that this campaign effectively conveyed information about diabetes awareness, treatment, and prevention methods to the residents of the Bavel region.
Heart to Heart Foundation Cambodia has been implementing the ‘Project to Community-based Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases in Battambang Province, Cambodia’ as a part of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)’s Civil society Partnership Program (2021-2023).
