“Annual Conference in 2023”
‘KOICA project to Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases in Battambang Province, Cambodia’
The Heart to Heart Foundation Cambodia Branch held annual conference on December 7 at Sangker hotel in Battambang. Representatives from the Ministry of Health (MOH), Battambang Provincial Health Department (PHD), Battambang Provincial Of Education Youth and Sports (POEYS), and Thmar-koul Operational District (OD) referral hospitals and health personnel attended. We shared our achievements with our Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) project from 2021 to 2023, and discussed lessons learned based on our experiences.

The annual conference began with a presentation by Ms. Meas Vicheth, Senior Field Coordinator of Heart to Heart Foundation Cambodia. He presented the three-year achievements of the NCD project and mentioned that the Heart to Heart Foundation has been implementing the project based on the government NCD guidelines.
Next, Sun Vansav, Field Coordinator at Heart to Heart Foundation, presented the Peer Educator program, which has played a key role in raising community awareness of NCD over the past three years.
Peer educators are the Village Health Support Group (VHSG), and have been diagnosed with hypertension or diabetes. They mainly inform the community of NCD awareness activities such as healthy food cooking demonstration, exercise, home visiting.

Mr Vorn Veoun, Director of Health Education at the Battambang Provincial Department of Education, presented the changes in teachers, and students and their families through NCD health education in schools. Through the education and campaign activities, teachers and students were able to realize and practice the importance of healthy food, regular exercising, quit smoking and drinking.
Dr. Chhum Sophat, Director of Battambang Provincial Health Department, shared the recommendations from the technical monitoring. And he requested active cooperation from all relevant organizations and authorities for timely treatment of NCD diseases in the NCD clinics and Health Centers. Also Dr. Chun loun, Director of NCD unit at the Ministry of Health, presented hypertension and diabetes management systems and telemedicine in the primary health care system.

Afterwards, all participants gathered to discuss and present the changes, strengths, and challenges before and after the NCD project.
Heart to Heart Foundation Cambodia branch will continue to conduct NCD prevention and treatment through the second phase of the KOICA Project (2024-2026). And we plan to apply the experiences and lesson learn for enhancing quality services provided to more people.
