Opening a treatment center ocular pathology was held at CHUK hospital. The treatment for children under fifteen years old will be free.
The first center to treat eye diseases for children opens its doors at CHUK hospital. The center will treat all curable eye diseases. The main cause of blindness for children is congenital cataract. Till now, the children with eye diseases were not treated due to the lack of proper medical equipments and infrastructures. The Center has now modern medical equipments. It is a great step in eye care in Burundi according to Dr Levi Kandeke.
Dr Levi Kandeke said “This is the only one Phaco machine that we have in Burundi. We can now operate on eye without opening it. The recovery time is reduced; the patient can see just after surgery.”
All children under fifteen years old will be getting free services. Heart to Heart Foundation, a Korean NGO will run the project in partnership with CHUK and CEEM. CHUK will provide medical personnel and CEEM will organize outreaches in communities based for searching children with eyes diseases.
